The ALLER AQUA Group is one of the leading international aquafeed producers, providing specialized feeds for more than 35 species around the globe. All feed programmes have been developed under the premise to meet highest physical and nutritional quality, maximizing farmer’s economic yield.
In contrast to ALLER AQUA’s centralized feed formulation, species and strains used in aquaculture differ between farms and markets. Even for species like rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss), exhibiting a long domestication history, several strains exist worldwide.
Consequently, ALLER AQUA RESEARCH and partner conducted feeding trials with two different rainbow trout strains from the US (strain A) and Europe (strain B). Juveniles of both strains were stocked, adapted to optimal environmental RAS conditions, and fed to apparent satiation twice a day over a period of 9 weeks.
Results demonstrated that ALLER AQUA trout feed outperforms competitor in both strains. Moreover, strain B (Europe) performed significantly better than strain A (US), showing a lower mortality rate, improved feed conversion and a leaner, more appealing fish, while growing at higher rates. In summary, it can be concluded that ALLER AQUA’s trout feed programme guarantees best and constantly high performance of fish, while strain selection could significantly impact farm economy.
