The nutritional requirements of rainbow trout are better described than for most fish species in aquaculture. Carnivorous rainbow trout require moderate protein and high energy contents for optimal growth and perfor-mance. Protein saving can be achieved by increasing the dietary lipid content which also serves as a source for valuable fatty acids in the final product. In this respect, rainbow trout have a higher demand for n-3 than n-6 fatty acids. As in other fish species, juvenile rainbow trout require more protein and less energy in the feed than adults.
